Since 1999 we have been helping and supporting the fire brigades and police in the Offenbach district, Darmstadt-Dieburg district and Groß Gerau district in the event of an emergency when snakes are found as voluntary assistance.
This includes animal-friendly safeguarding, species-appropriate accommodation of the found animals and their veterinary care if necessary. The highest number of operations is usually concentrated in the summer months. But even in the rest of the year, we are often called in to provide help in the field. The tendency is unfortunately increasing every year due to careless hobby terrarium keepers.
Since 2013 we have been offering training courses for voluntary fire brigades on the subject of snake finds in action. These training courses focus on identifying and recognizing native species, but also on mapping some of the majority of species kept in terrariums. A basic procedure in the event of an emergency with snakes is also discussed and various emergency measures are discussed.
This year, for the first time, we are holding our online training courses for the state fire brigade school in Saxony and we are supporting the fire chief induction courses on the subject of animal rescue.
